Removing the Throttle Body restrictor plate

Removing the Throttle Body restrictor plate
This Idea came to me from a e-mail I recieved from "J.E.Murphy III" concerning intake mods.
He gets all the credit for this one, I just duplicated his Idea on my truck
and documented it for you.
First I removed the air diverter above the throttle body,
Next I removed the throttle cable retainer and disconnected the cable from the Throttle Body,
Then I removed the 3 retainer bolts and the TPS and IAC harness connectors.
The Throttle Body lifted right off. With the Throttle Body on the bench I didn't
have to worry about dropping the butterfly retainer screws down into the intake.

I was kinda amazed, my throttle body was this dirty after 8000 miles

This is the Throttle Body before any mod was made,
To remove the throttle plate, remove the 2 retainer scrwes (Torx head #10 or #15),
open the throttle, and push it out from the bottom.

This is the Throttle plate AFTER the restrictor was ground off,
While doing this BE CAREFUL, work slow, if the grinder "grabs" the plate
it can cause the plate restrictor to bend (or break off which is a bad thing)
in the way of the air stream catching the air as it passes
screwing up the smooth airflow. Also, be careful not to remove the rivets
holding the restrictor plate to the throttle plate, there is a base air bypass hole
that is calibrated into the PCM. If any of theese are messed up you will need to buy
a new throttle body.

To reassemble the throttle plate into the throttle body,
open the throttle, gently slide the throttle plate down into place,
gently close the throttle being careful not to score the boar,
open and close it a little a few times to make sure it's centered,
then re-install the retainer screws with a little Loctite.
open and close it and check for binding, mine was ok so I re installed it on the truck.
One thing I had that most will not was a TECH 2 scanner,
I cleared out the fuel trim learn, and fired it up. Another way to re-set this
is to dis connect your battery before you begin the mod, after 1 to 1.5 hours,
hook the battery back up and turn the key to run, wait a few and start it.
My results: More high RPM power, barley noticeable, but there.
This mod would be good with a AIR RAID air system, better with headers and a
cat back system (soon to come).
