Induction Mods - Airaid alternative

Induction Mods - Airaid alternative

This idea came to me from a friend who did something similar to his
Vortec supercharged '89 Ford Mustang, he used 3" sewer pipe to route
his air filter tube from his blower, into his fender well.
where he used the same K&N filter as I did.

The sewer pipe is cheap and it has nice smooth curves inside. It is
also pretty light. It works great for getting rid of the stock
(restricting) air hose.

Here is how I did it.

I started with a 3" sewer pipe 45' elbow with Male/Female ends.
The angle wasn't quite sharp enough so I had to use a 3" piece
of conduit tubing which was pre bent to 90' degrees.
I cut off about 9 inches of the conduit tubing, and assembeled
it to the elbow fitting, sealed it with GMS, I then drilled a
3/4" hole, and ground it down to fit a gromet for the
Air Temp Sensor. Below you can see the Air Temp Sensor, and
GMS, as I installed it.

I then used A 3" piece of rubber tubing and 2 large hose clamps
to attach the Mass Airflow sensor to the end of the conduit.
And another to attach the OEM throttle body inlet elbow.
Below is the final assembly.

For the Final install I had to remove the stock airbox, and the
front airbox mount (which just slides up and out), then the
airbox mount stud next to the fuse and relay box. The stud had
to come off because it was hitting the Mass Airflow sensor and I
didn't want it to end up failing later on. The whole assembly
stays there all by itself with a little height adjusting at the
throttle body elbow. With this in this location I believe it is
high enough to stay safely above any high water I may encounter.
(an airbox is in the works just incase)

I have noticed a small increase in power, coupled with removing my
Throttle Body Restrictor, as well as a Large increase in NOISE
at part to full throttle it sounds almost like the secondaries on
a Quadrajet carb.

I do like the custom look it has, next project is to add a heat shield so the
intake air comes from the front of the vehicle through the holes in the front
radiator support, there is a 2 inch hole and a 1 1/2 X 4 inch hole perfect for
pulling in cold air fron the front of the truck.
