Lower Ball Joints / Necessary Repair

Lower Ball Joints / Necessary Repair

OK, I procrastenated long enough on this, I replaced them with NAPA
lifetime garentee joints built by Spicer. They looked pretty tough compared to the
OE ones I removed, the old ones looked like 2-3 pieces of plate steel stamped
together and crimped. The new ones were one solid cast bottom piece

I won't bore you with dissasembly directions, If you don't know how to replace
a ball joint, you should seriously consider paying a shop to do it for you,
Espically if this is the first set being replaced on your truck. Basically, If
I didn't have my impact tools, I would pay for someone to do it.

The above pic is the hub/halfshaft removed and brake caliper wired out of the way.
You can see the end lift I used to keep the torsion bar from ripping the
lower control arm off the frame.

Here is a few shots of me actually removing the ball joints with my impact
hammer. First, off with the rivet heads, then blast the rivets through the holes
and last, out falls the ball joint.

Above is a pic of one of the cheap OE ball joints

Here is the Drivers side (left) with the new joint installed.

I knew they were bad, just not this bad.
I figured 1/10 inch, turns out, after I removed them there was 2/10 to 3/10 inch
play BY HAND. I feel better now knowing they are new.
